Albany Democrat-Herald article

Ok, so this post won't be as witty or well-written as prior ones, but that's probably because Ryan's not writing it. He asked Mom to copy & paste the DH article for him & she quickly passed the techie stuff on to me (Kristin - Ryan's most experienced sister). I thought it would probably be easiest for me to post it directly to his blog, so I texted him on the trail. He gave me permission to post the article, so here's the beginning of it, (there's a link to the full article at the end of the blog):

Ryan Krabill starts his 2,658-mile hike of the Pacific Crest Trail today in Campo, Calif. His goal is to raise $26,580 — $10 per mile — for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

  1. Thanks, Kristin... Ryan is lucky to have you - "most experienced sister" - his mom would not have accomplished this.

  2. I thought "most experienced" sounded a whole lot better than "older" or "big"! LOL

  3. Hi Ryan & Family,
My husband, Patrick came across your blog yesterday and we have been excited ever since. We have emailed it to friends and we're trying to spread the word. Patrick was diagnosed last August with squamous cell carcinoma on his left lateral tongue. He had just turned 30 years old and had no risk factors. He had a big surgery on September 25, 2008, including the neck dissection, and has been cancer free ever since. We are following your blog and think what you are doing is amazing!! We live in the San Francisco area, so maybe we'll come up and see you when you pass through Lake Tahoe. Best of luck with your adventure! You are reaching more people than you know!

  4. Wow! Molly & Patrick Devinger - Thank you for encouraging Ryan! As was his cancer treatment, this PCT trek is another "Moses in the Nile/Mother" event. (Maybe you're familiar with that Biblical account of faith). Like life, Ryan's journey already encounters unexpecteds. We wish you both continued healing, physical and emotional. The journey you've been on is not for the weak...and affects many more than the suffering patient ...we KNOW.
